Watch out for Eternal! Or maybe I'm in the wrong?
Long time, and otherwise happy, client of Eternal. They've been a solid, awesome provider. I can't complain about their service or stability - until now.
Perhaps it's my fault? I'd love /r/iptv's thought's... did I screw up, or is Eternal being, well, over the top?
Long story short: been a subscriber to the 5 stream service for a long time now. Apparently I recently hit 4 concurrent streams briefly - I believe when I had a technical issue with streams not closing until I force closed on the server - but that's largely beside the point. Normally I'd have one, maybe two streams. 99% of the time I'd have 0, I don't use it that much.
In any case, I happen to notice my streams have gone down and the connection saying unauthorized. Okay... login to the web portal... they say my account has been banned for having 4 concurrent streams and my IP coming from a server, banned as reseller!
Well... Hitting 4 streams shouldn't be an issue since I'd been paying, according to them, for 5. That's not the big issue though... no, it's the server/reseller thing. To address that:
Yes, I am running my own dedicated server running Emby and have Eternal tied into that. I run a box outside my home for a few reasons, one big one being it would have better download speeds than I can get via a local ISP. Never been an issue before. Now, suddenly, Eternal decide that since I hit 4 out of the 5 streams, it is.
I tried to explain this to no avail. They claim that according to their ToS I agreed to no restreaming in any fashion. Specifically, their reply to my ticket was:
You cannot load our service onto a server and restream! Not for ANY reason. This is clearly stated in our terms of service which you agreed to at the time of purchase. You will not be able to get your service back.
Honestly I do not recall any such ToS and I at least skim through them. To try and verify I'm not nuts, I tried to double check finding any such restriction on the website, can't find any such warning/rule. Maybe it exists and I haven't found it - or my account no longer has access to the necessary pages? Or maybe it's BS... I'm honestly not sure.
Yeah, I can see why they'd be concerned about unauthorized reselling/streaming. If they actually looked at the logs though they'd see I have 0 streams running 99% of the time. When there actually is a stream, it's one or two. Maybe I'm just the victim of a dragnet rule, or maybe they're being stubborn, or maybe in your opinion I'm totally in the wrong?
Obviously providers/resellers can do what they want, ban whom they want, for any reason they want - whether they actually provided a warning/rule or not. From a business standpoint I think this is crap... but hey, given the quality of their service otherwise, even if I am "right" I'm pissing in the wind... what's one sub in the scheme of things?
That said, I'm interesting in this sub's opinion: Did I legit mess up, or am I getting the short end of the stick here?
And hey, since Eternal has told me to GTFO, anyone got a good recommendation to replace 'em?
